WHEREAS, The people of the State of Washington and the people of 1
Denmark maintain a strong and enduring relationship, exemplified by 2
visits from the Danish Crown Princess, Danish ambassadors, and the 3
Danish Foreign Minister, who have all engaged with state, city, and 4
municipal officials, including former Governor Inslee; and5
WHEREAS, There are significant economic ties between the people 6
of Washington and the people of Denmark, including Danish-supported 7
initiatives involving industrial symbiosis projects in eastern 8
Washington, substantial shipping activities through Washington ports 9
by the Danish company Maersk, employment of approximately 3,000 10
workers by Danish businesses in the state, and annual exports from 11
Washington to Denmark valued at approximately $48 million; and12
WHEREAS, Educational collaborations between Washingtonians and 13
Danes are robust, with student exchange programs linking the 14
University of Washington and Danish universities, internships 15
provided by Danish firms to Washington students, and visiting Danish 16
educators at the University of Washington's Scandinavian Studies 17
Department; and 18
WHEREAS, Cultural connections between both peoples are richly 19
woven, encompassing live performances and exhibitions by Danish 20
artists in Washington, as well as public outdoor works by the world-21
renowned Danish artist Thomas Dambo; and 22

Scott, Ryu, Timmons, Stonier, Leavitt, and Berg

WHEREAS, Washington is home to a significant Danish-American 1
population, reflected in the Danish and Nordic organizations and the 2
many Danish cultural celebrations that enhance and enrich life in the 3
state; and 4
WHEREAS, Researchers from Washington developed a long-standing 5
and collaborative scientific relationship with researchers from 6
Denmark and from Greenland, focusing on the atmosphere, ocean, 7
biology, sea ice, ice sheet dynamics, and the past climate of 8
Greenland and the Arctic, with studies in these areas conducted 9
alongside Danish colleagues for more than 40 years;10
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, In appreciation of these myriad 11
relationships, the House of Representatives reiterate their firm 12
support for continued and strengthened governmental, economic, 13
educational, and cultural ties between the people of Washington and 14
the people of Denmark and of Greenland. 15
