WHEREAS, As neighbors, the people of Washington and Canada have 1
built a prosperous and exemplary relationship that is the envy of the 2
world, driving economic growth, encouraging cultural transfer, and 3
solving shared challenges together; and 4
WHEREAS, Washington state and British Columbia serve as a model 5
for regional collaboration, reflecting a history of cooperation that 6
continues to strengthen economic integration and shared innovation; 7
and 8
WHEREAS, The ties between the people of Canada and the people of 9
Washington state are woven into the fabric of each of our economies, 10
with nearly 2.7 billion USD worth of goods and services traded each 11
day; and 12
WHEREAS, The products traded support some of the industries we 13
rely upon most, such as food, energy, manufacturing and agriculture, 14
and millions of jobs for both Washingtonians and Canadians depend on 15
this incredible partnership; and 16
WHEREAS, Commerce with the people of British Columbia maintains a 17
deeply integrated trade relationship, with billions of dollars in 18
goods and services exchanged annually, providing a critical market 19
for exports and ensuring an efficient supply chain for key 20
industries; and 21
WHEREAS, The relationship between the people of Washington state 22
and Canada exemplifies a successful history of trust, mutual respect, 23

and cooperation, buoying each other through periods of uncertainty, 1
economic downturns, trade disputes, and a global pandemic; and 2
WHEREAS, The 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup games in Washington state 3
and British Columbia will benefit communities across the Pacific 4
Northwest, and particularly our tourism, emerging industries, and 5
small businesses; and 6
WHEREAS, The shared economic interdependence across multiple 7
sectors, including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, technology, 8
and transportation ensures continued job creation, business 9
expansion, and global market shifts to maintain economic stability; 10
and 11
WHEREAS, With honor, respect, and acknowledgment, the people of 12
Canada and the people of Washington state share a deep and enduring 13
connection with the First Nations and Tribes, the first peoples of 14
both nations, who have upheld agreements with federal governments in 15
recognition of their sovereignty and inherent rights, whose 16
bloodlines, culture, and traditional laws have sustained these lands 17
since time immemorial, and who continue to be essential partners and 18
leaders in economic sustainability; and 19
WHEREAS, The strong relationship between the people of Canada and 20
the people of Washington state is reflected in the communities that 21
span the border, which are deeply rooted in shared traditions and 22
cultural exchanges; and 23
WHEREAS, Point Roberts, Washington exemplifies the deep 24
interconnection between the people of Washington state and British 25
Columbia, depending on cross-border access to essential resources; 26
and 27
WHEREAS, Our shared leadership in addressing climate change and 28
sustainable energy resources has resulted in real progress to advance 29
clean technologies, explore solutions to complex challenges, and 30
ensure a healthy and resilient world for our future generations; and 31
WHEREAS, Our Canadian neighbors provide aid to Washington state 32
in times of crisis, lending supplies and volunteers during the 33
Nooksack floods, sending water bombers to combat wildfires, and 34
allowing stranded passengers and planes to take refuge on September 35
11, 2001; 36
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives 37
reaffirm our commitment to collaboration, fostering consistent, open 38
dialogue between public and private sectors, and strengthening the 39
bonds we have shared with the people of Canada for over 150 years, 40

and to unite to solve common challenges and build mutual prosperity 1
through collaboration that enables our region to advance practical 2
solutions that create long lasting benefits for us all.3
