WHEREAS, Mia Hamant, a standout goalkeeper for the University of 1
Washington's (UW) Women's Soccer team, was a loving daughter, loyal 2
friend, and a fighter who approached every challenge with courage and 3
grace. Her heart, selflessness, and resilience touched the lives of 4
the entire Husky community; and 5
WHEREAS, Hamant was one of the country's best goalkeepers during 6
her junior season in 2024, sending the Huskies to the semifinals of 7
the Big Ten Conference tournament by making three saves during UW's 8
penalty shootout against the University of Iowa during the 9
quarterfinals; and 10
WHEREAS, Hamant was diagnosed with stage 4 SMARCB1-deficient 11
kidney cancer, an ultrarare form of the disease. She immediately 12
began chemotherapy treatment and stepped away from the Huskies, 13
though she attended every home game during what was supposed to be 14
her senior season; and 15
WHEREAS, Hamant continues to serve as an inspiration for her 16
teammates, who have since went on to win the 2025 Big Ten Conference 17
regular season and Big Ten tournament championships, and finished 18
their season in the Elite Eight in the 2025 NCAA tournament. Picked 19
ninth in the Big Ten preseason poll, Washington became the first team 20
since 2013 to win both regular season and tournament titles; and21
WHEREAS, Hamant was selected as Washington's 2025 sportsmanship 22
award honoree by the Big Ten during its end-of-season awards; and23

WHEREAS, The Huskies' season success was facilitated by several 1
coaches, including unanimous Big Ten Coach of the Year Nicole Van 2
Dyke, and key players such as Samiah Shell, who was awarded 2025 Big 3
Ten Women's Soccer Tournament Most Outstanding Player, and Tanner 4
Ijams and Alex Buck, who both made the 2025 Big Ten Women's Soccer 5
All-Tournament Team. Furthermore, five players were named United 6
Soccer Coaches All-Region, including: Jadyn Holdenried, Kelsey 7
Branson, Kolo Suliafu, Alex Buck, and Maya Loudd, setting a program 8
record. Kolo Suliafu and Alex Buck were also named All-American, 9
marking the first time Washington had two players receive this 10
accolade in one season; 11
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House 12
of Representatives posthumously recognize the life of Mia Hamant and 13
commend her unshakable spirit that has inspired her family, 14
teammates, coaches, and community; and 15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Washington State House of 16
Representatives congratulate the 2025 University of Washington 17
Women's Soccer team for its success and determination in winning its 18
first-ever 2025 Big Ten Women's Soccer regular season and tournament 19
titles and finishing in the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division 1 20
Women's Soccer tournament. 21
