WHEREAS, The people of Washington state share a rich cultural 1
history and a strong bond with our global neighbors in Taiwan and the 2
more than 100,000 Taiwanese Americans from Taiwan living and working 3
in Washington state; and 4
WHEREAS, Taiwanese Americans living in Washington have profoundly 5
impacted our state and continue to further the democratic values that 6
define us as a beacon of opportunity and prosperity; and7
WHEREAS, The people of Washington state enjoy a more vibrant 8
heritage and economy from the bilateral cultivation of these deep 9
ties with the people of Taiwan; and 10
WHEREAS, Taiwan advanced one spot to become the 7th largest 11
trading partner of the United States in 2024, with bilateral goods 12
trade totaling $158.6 billion, marking a 24.2 percent growth over 13
2023; and 14
WHEREAS, In 2024, Taiwan imported $3.8 billion worth of United 15
States agricultural products, and has ranked among the top three 16
importers of Washington sweet cherries, potatoes, and beef; and17
WHEREAS, The people of Washington state value the investment of 18
Taiwanese companies in Washington state's workforce, helping to 19
create more than 20,000 skilled labor jobs in industries ranging from 20
semiconductor technology, airlines, and harbor shipping to the 21
development and manufacture of high-quality fiber optic components 22
and video microscopes; 23
