WHEREAS, The Washington State House of Representatives recognize 1
the significant cultural, economic, and unifying role that 2
professional sports play in the lives of Washingtonians and the 3
source of pride, inspiration, and community identity for fans 4
provided by the Seattle Mariners; and 5
WHEREAS, During the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) season, 6
Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh delivered one of the most extraordinary 7
individual performances in the history of baseball, leading all of 8
the MLB in home runs with 60, and leading the American League in runs 9
batted in at 125; and 10
WHEREAS, Raleigh is only the seventh player in MLB history to 11
reach 60 home runs in a season milestone; setting a new MLB record 12
for most home runs by a catcher in a single season and the first 13
catcher in MLB history to hit 20 or more home runs from both the left 14
and right sides of the plate in a single season; recording 11 multi–15
home run games, tying an MLB record shared by some of the game's most 16
legendary power hitters; and establishing a new MLB record for most 17
home runs by a switch-hitter in a single season, surpassing the long-18
standing record previously set by Mickey Mantle in 1961; and19
WHEREAS, Raleigh was selected to his first MLB All-Star Game and 20
made history by becoming the first catcher and first switch-hitter to 21
win the MLB Home Run Derby; and 22

WHEREAS, Raleigh was honored with the Silver Slugger Award as the 1
top offensive catcher in the American League and received multiple 2
Players' Choice Awards, including Player of the Year and American 3
League Outstanding Player, as voted on by his fellow MLB players; and4
WHEREAS, Raleigh's historic season played a pivotal role in 5
helping the Seattle Mariners clinch the 2025 American League West 6
Division Championship, the franchise's first division title since 7
2001, and propelled the Mariners to the American League Championship 8
Series, marking one of the franchise's deepest postseason runs;9
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House 10
of Representatives honor Cal Raleigh for his historic contributions 11
to professional baseball, his dedication to excellence, his historic 12
2025 season, and the pride he has brought to Mariners fans and 13
communities throughout Washington State; and 14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 15
transmitted to Cal Raleigh, the Seattle Mariners organization, and 16
Major League Baseball as an expression of the Washington State House 17
of Representatives' appreciation and congratulations.18
