WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Girl Scouts of 1
Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, and Girl Scouts of Oregon and 2
Southwest Washington councils are proud to provide a safe learning 3
environment for scouts of all backgrounds through the end of high 4
school; and 5
WHEREAS, Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts 113 years 6
ago in Savannah, Georgia. Originally named Girl Guides, the 7
organization focused on leadership, skill building, and community 8
service. The group empowered young women during a time when women did 9
not have voting rights in the United States; and 10
WHEREAS, Roughly half of adult women in the United States were a 11
Girl Scout at some point of their lives, accounting for more than 50 12
million youth members nationwide; and 13
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts play an indispensable role in engaging girls 14
in after-school and out-of-school programs and experiences, which 15
expand their world and allow them to utilize their inner community 16
builder, innovator, change maker, and leader; and 17
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts has furthered its mission to "build girls of 18
courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better 19
place"; and 20
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts is tailored toward building community and 21
relationships that last a lifetime, and developing skills that permit 22
success in adulthood in any field; and 23

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts provide civics education and service 1
opportunities to girls of all grade levels that deepens their 2
understanding of democracy and government, and motivates them to take 3
part in their community; 4
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives 5
recognize the Girl Scouts for its services to the youth of the state 6
and the development of the next generation of leaders.7
