WHEREAS, Robert Steven Masko was born on October 28, 1954, in 1
Tacoma, Washington, and was a lifelong resident of Pierce county who 2
dedicated his life to service, family, and community; and3
WHEREAS, Robert Masko graduated from Wilson High School in 1973 4
and earned a degree in criminal justice from Washington State 5
University in 1977, reflecting an early and enduring commitment to 6
public service; and 7
WHEREAS, Robert Masko devoted nearly four decades to law 8
enforcement with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, serving 9
honorably for 37 years and retiring as undersheriff, where he was 10
widely respected as a leader, mentor, and public servant known for 11
integrity, compassion, and professionalism; and 12
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Robert Masko treated every person 13
with dignity and worked tirelessly to protect and strengthen the 14
communities he served; and 15
WHEREAS, Beyond his professional service, Robert Masko gave 16
generously of his time as a Fircrest City Councilmember and through 17
leadership and volunteer roles, including Law Enforcement Youth Camp 18
Director, Civil Service Commissioner, youth group leader, youth 19
sports coach, and local credit union board member and chair; and20
WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Robert Masko continued his 21
commitment to community service through work supporting a local law 22
enforcement nonprofit, the Fircrest Civil Service Oral Board, the 23
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2026-4686 , by Representatives Leavitt, Bronoske, and
Richards

University Place Public Safety Advisory Commission, his homeowners 1
association, and numerous other local efforts; and 2
WHEREAS, Robert Masko worked diligently to secure new playground 3
equipment at Masko Park, leaving a lasting legacy for children and 4
families in the community; and 5
WHEREAS, Robert Masko was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, 6
brother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and generosity touched all 7
who knew him; and 8
WHEREAS, Robert Masko passed away on September 13, 2025, at the 9
age of 70, surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy 10
of service, leadership, and community devotion that will endure for 11
generations; 12
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives 13
of the state of Washington honor and recognize the life and service 14
of Robert Steven Masko for his extraordinary contributions to public 15
safety, civic leadership, and the Pierce county community; and16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend 17
its deepest support, sympathy, and respect to his wife, Dawn Masko, 18
his children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, colleagues, 19
and all those whose lives were enriched by his service and 20
friendship; and 21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 22
transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the 23
family of Robert Steven Masko. 24
