WHEREAS, Steve Nelsen has devoted 34 years of exemplary public 1
service to the state of Washington, including 22 years of 2
distinguished service to the Law Enforcement Officers' and 3
Firefighters' (LEOFF) Plan 2 Retirement Board; and 4
WHEREAS, Mr. Nelsen served as the first-ever Executive Director 5
of the Law Enforcement Officers' and Firefighters' Plan 2 Retirement 6
Board and played a central role in creating, building, and 7
successfully operating the agency from its inception; and8
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Mr. Nelsen provided steady, 9
knowledgeable, and principled leadership, earning the respect and 10
trust of board members, legislators, stakeholders, and colleagues 11
across state government; and 12
WHEREAS, Working in close partnership with the Board, Mr. Nelsen 13
helped strengthen the Law Enforcement Officers' and Firefighters' 14
Plan 2 retirement system for its members and beneficiaries; and15
WHEREAS, Mr. Nelsen made substantial contributions toward long-16
term plan funding operations, helping to ensure the fiscal integrity, 17
sustainability, and sound governance of the Law Enforcement Officers' 18
and Firefighters' Plan 2 retirement system; and 19
WHEREAS, Through his leadership and expertise, Mr. Nelsen has 20
consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of retirement policy 21
and a commitment to honoring the service and sacrifice of 22
Washington's public safety professionals; and 23

WHEREAS, Mr. Nelsen has been steadfastly committed to the mission 1
of the agency and the Board, embodied in the guiding principle, "They 2
keep us safe, we keep them secure," and has consistently centered the 3
needs of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and their families 4
in his work; and 5
WHEREAS, Mr. Nelsen demonstrated a strong commitment to trustee 6
education, ensuring board members were well informed and equipped to 7
fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities through ongoing education, 8
collaboration, and access to expert resources; and 9
WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedication and service to the 10
public safety community, Mr. Nelsen has been honored as an honorary 11
firefighter; and 12
WHEREAS, Mr. Nelsen's career has been marked by integrity, 13
institutional knowledge, collaboration, and an unwavering dedication 14
to public service and the well-being of the members of the Law 15
Enforcement Officers' and Firefighters' Plan 2 Retirement Board;16
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House 17
of Representatives honor and commend Steve Nelsen for his outstanding 18
service and lasting contributions to the State of Washington and to 19
the Law Enforcement Officers' and Firefighters' Plan 2 retirement 20
system; and 21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House extend its sincere 22
appreciation and best wishes to Mr. Nelsen for a fulfilling and 23
rewarding retirement; and 24
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 25
transmitted to Steve Nelsen and to the Law Enforcement Officers' and 26
Fire Fighters' Plan 2 Retirement Board. 27
