WHEREAS, Washington's dairy industry has been strong since before 1
the state itself was founded, with cows brought over in 1838 and the 2
state's first creamery opening in 1880 in Cheney; and3
WHEREAS, Dairy farms are found across Washington state, with at 4
least one in 27 of the 39 counties, providing quality, nutritious 5
products to families across the state for generations; and6
WHEREAS, Dairy is recognized by the United States Department of 7
Agriculture's Dietary Guidelines as a major food group and an 8
essential part of a balanced and healthy diet; and 9
WHEREAS, There are nearly 400 dairy farms and over 275,000 dairy 10
cows in Washington state with 33 certified organic dairies in 11
Washington; and 12
WHEREAS, Dairy is ranked as the third highest agricultural 13
commodity produced in Washington state, making an impact of over 14
$1,000,000,000 annually with Washington ranking eleventh nationally 15
in total milk production; and 16
WHEREAS, Dairy Day at the legislature takes place on February 18, 17
2026, at the capitol campus and celebrates delicious Washington-18
produced dairy products; 19
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House 20
of Representatives acknowledge and appreciate those who work on dairy 21
farms throughout the state and who have been key contributors to the 22
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2026-4690, by Representative Jinkins
