AN ACT Relating to policing costs driven by proximity to state 1
hospitals; and adding a new section to chapter 72.23 RCW.2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:3
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 72.23 4
RCW to read as follows: 5
(1) A community partnership program is established between the 6
department and the city of Medical Lake to support community policing 7
efforts at eastern state hospital and adjacent areas.8
(2) The community partnership program between the department and 9
the city of Lakewood to support community policing efforts at western 10
state hospital and adjacent areas is hereby recognized and 11
perpetuated. 12
(3) Funding to support the community partnership programs 13
described in subsections (1) and (2) of this section shall be 14
provided annually by the state to the cities of Medical Lake and 15
Lakewood in an amount to be determined in the biennial budget which 16
reflects anticipated service levels and costs. The design of each 17
program may vary to reflect individual community needs. The aggregate 18
amounts provided to each city's program must fairly reflect the 19
relative size of each state hospital and individual community needs, 20
