AN ACT Relating to history and heritage education; adding a new 1
section to chapter 28A.320 RCW; and creating a new section.2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:3
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28A.320 4
RCW to read as follows: 5
School districts may not censor or restrict instruction in United 6
States or Washington state history or heritage based on religious 7
references in original source documents, writings, speeches, 8
proclamations, or records, including: 9
(1) The Mayflower compact; 10
(2) The Declaration of Independence; 11
(3) The Constitution of the United States; 12
(4) The Washington state Constitution; 13
(5) The preambles and constitutions of other states within the 14
United States; 15
(6) The Northwest Ordinance of 1787; 16
(7) The Federalist Papers; 17
(8) The Pledge of Allegiance; 18
(9) The national anthem; 19
(10) George Washington's farewell address to the nation;20
(11) Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address; 21
