AN ACT Relating to appropriations for long-term forest health and 1
wildfire reduction; creating a new section; and making an 2
appropriation. 3
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:4
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature finds that policies 5
enacted in chapter 298, Laws of 2021, concerning long-term forest 6
health and the reduction of wildfire dangers, are just as relevant 7
today as they were in 2021. The full effect of that act has not been 8
realized, primarily due to insufficient funds being appropriated for 9
the purposes specified in that act. The omnibus operating budget for 10
the 2025-2027 fiscal biennium provided $60,000,000 in the first 11
fiscal year, whereas the needed appropriation is $125,000,000 for the 12
fiscal biennium. Therefore, it is the intent of this act to fulfill 13
the amounts needed for the 2025-2027 fiscal biennium.14
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. The sum of $65,000,000, or as much thereof 15
as may be necessary, is appropriated for the fiscal year ending June 16
30, 2026, from the natural climate solutions account to the wildfire 17
response, forest restoration, and community resilience account.18
