AN ACT Relating to maintaining hatchery production of salmonids; 1
adding a new section to chapter 77.95 RCW; and creating a new 2
section. 3
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:4
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. Many anadromous fish stocks in Washington 5
state are sensitive or endangered and have, as a result, been 6
supplemented through hatchery programs. As budget constraints hit the 7
governments who operate the hatcheries, the stocks continue to 8
suffer. The legislature finds that the department of fish and 9
wildlife shall maintain the production of anadromous hatchery fish 10
regardless of hatchery closures.11
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 77.95 12
RCW to read as follows: 13
The department shall not reduce the production of any anadromous 14
fisheries stock from the closure of hatcheries and must offset the 15
loss of production from the closure of a hatchery with increased 16
production in other facilities. 17
