WHEREAS, Washington has emerged in recent decades as an 1
increasingly popular destination for immigrants and the state of 2
Washington continues to benefit tremendously from the contribution of 3
immigrants; and 4
WHEREAS, Immigrants are our neighbors, our friends, and most 5
importantly, Washingtonians; and 6
WHEREAS, Immigrant culture provides change for the better by 7
introducing new ideas, expertise, customs, food, and art; and8
WHEREAS, Linguistic diversity in Washington boasts 163 different 9
languages, and nearly half of all immigrants in Washington are 10
naturalized citizens; and 11
WHEREAS, 15.3 percent of the state's population is foreign-born, 12
with an additional 8.8 percent of the population having at least one 13
immigrant parent; and 14
WHEREAS, Immigration fuels the economy by increasing the 15
productive capacity of the economy and contributing to the gross 16
domestic product, and immigrants pay state and local taxes; and17
WHEREAS, Washington is one of the highest food-producing states 18
in the nation and relies heavily on its growing immigrant population 19
and their significant contributions to this state, as over half of 20
the state's agriculture, fishing, hunting, and forestry work is 21
performed by immigrant workers; and 22

WHEREAS, Immigrant business owners accounted for 21.5 1
percent of all self-employed Washington residents in 2022 and 2
generated three billion dollars in business income, and 3
immigrants comprised at least 19 percent of the labor force, 4
30.6 percent of STEM workers, and 17.3 percent of nurses; and5
WHEREAS, Nearly half of immigrants in Washington state have 6
white-collar jobs, have made substantial contributions to their 7
community, and have invigorated business, church, and academic 8
interests in the United States; 9
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the 10
vital role immigrants play in Washington state as neighbors, 11
business owners, workers, and taxpayers, as immigrants are an 12
integral part of Washington's diverse and thriving communities 13
and they make extensive contributions that benefit all.14
