Contributions of China

WHEREAS, In 2024, China became the state of Washington's largest 1
export market, with goods exports to China totaling a robust $12 2
billion; and 3
WHEREAS, The state of Washington's agricultural exports to China 4
reached $857 million in 2023, including beef, fish, seafood, and 5
wheat, playing a critical role in supporting Washington's 6
agricultural environment; and 7
WHEREAS, According to the 2020 Census, there were 185,877 people 8
of Chinese descent living in the state of Washington, making them the 9
largest Asian American ethnic group in the state, and contributing 10
significantly to the cultural and economic diversity of the state; 11
and 12
WHEREAS, Between 2010 and 2020, the Asian American and Pacific 13
Islander population in the state of Washington grew by 56 percent, 14
making it the fastest-growing minority group, with Chinese Americans 15
playing a key role in this growth; and 16
WHEREAS, The Washington State China Relations Council, founded in 17
1979, is the oldest nongovernmental organization dedicated to 18
fostering trade, cultural, and educational exchanges between the 19
state of Washington and the People's Republic of China, with a 20
membership of over 100 entities from business, higher education, and 21
cultural sectors; and 22

WHEREAS, The United States and the People's Republic of 1
China established formal diplomatic relations on January 1, 2
1979, a milestone that has contributed to decades of 3
collaboration between the two nations in trade, commerce, and 4
education; and 5
WHEREAS, In 2024, the total trade volume between the United 6
States and China reached approximately $626 billion, with the 7
state of Washington benefiting significantly from these 8
bilateral trade relations; 9
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate of the state 10
of Washington recognize the significant contributions of China 11
to the economic growth and cultural diversity of the state of 12
Washington, with the Senate of the state of Washington honoring 13
this relationship. 14
