WHEREAS, The Junior Livestock Show of Spokane has been a time-1
honored, annual event that is a staple of the agricultural community 2
of the Pacific Northwest for generations, dating back to the first 3
show in 1936 that was held at the Old Union Stockyards until 1965; 4
and 5
WHEREAS, Going on 10 decades of dedication and tradition, the 6
Junior Livestock Show of Spokane embodies community and family as it 7
embraces the tradition through this educational and wholesome event 8
as the region's premier youth livestock exposition; and9
WHEREAS, The 90th annual event is scheduled for April 30th 10
through May 3, 2025, at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center to 11
showcase the agricultural industry as it celebrates the economic 12
stability that is brought to the Pacific Northwest region; and13
WHEREAS, The show provides an opportunity for youth to showcase 14
their skills taught by 4-H and Future Farmers of America by ethically 15
and humanely raising market-quality livestock, at market-quality 16
standard; and 17
WHEREAS, The 33rd president of the United States of America, 18
President Harry Truman, visited the Livestock Show in 1950 and 19
presented rosettes for swine along with presenting a ribbon for a 4-H 20
grand champion lamb; and 21
WHEREAS, The Junior Livestock Show of Spokane supports its hard 22
working graduating seniors with $13,000 in scholarships in 2024, with 23

students dedicated to agriculture heading to schools in Idaho, 1
Montana, and Oklahoma; and 2
WHEREAS, Locally raised cattle, hogs, sheep, and goats are 3
presented as a testament to the hard work put into the proper 4
raising of the animals by these youth to the general public; and5
WHEREAS, The 2025 Youth Ambassadors, Amelia Ray and Alyssa 6
Williams, represent the show by collaborating with the hosting 7
of the stock show and sale, recognizing the show sponsors, 8
exhibitor activities and show logistics, and also being 9
available in the off season for community and youth events;10
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State 11
Senate recognize the 90th annual Junior Livestock Show, which 12
attracts nearly 500 youth from across the Pacific Northwest to 13
showcase their hard work and dedication toward the future of 14
agriculture, and hereby honor this show and all that it does for 15
the agriculture community. 16
