WHEREAS, Over 100,000 Americans are currently awaiting life-1 saving organ transplants; and 2 WHEREAS, A new individual is added to the transplant waiting list 3 every eight minutes; and 4 WHEREAS, 13 lives are lost each day due to the lack of available 5 organ donations; and 6 WHEREAS, One organ, eye, and tissue donor can save eight lives 7 and enhance over 75 more; and 8 WHEREAS, When a recipient receives an organ, eye, or tissue 9 donation, they receive a second chance at life; and10 WHEREAS, Many Washingtonians have given the gift of life by 11 donating organs, eyes, and tissues; and 12 WHEREAS, These generous donors choose to make this profound 13 sacrifice, without ever knowing, nor may their families ever know, 14 the recipients of their gifts; and 15 WHEREAS, These donors demonstrate great compassion and love for 16 their fellow man in giving life to a stranger; and17 WHEREAS, These donors' families demonstrate equal compassion and 18 love in permitting the donation of their loved one's organs, eyes, 19 and tissues to a stranger; and 20 WHEREAS, All people should be made aware of the opportunity to 21 donate organs, eyes, and tissues, and be given the chance to choose 22 if donation of life seems good to them; and 23 SENATE RESOLUTION 8637 By Senators Goehner and Slatter p. 1 8637 WHEREAS, Increased awareness and the gathering together 1 toward the common goal of donation of life will bring hope, 2 strength, and encouragement to the people already waiting for a 3 transplant; and 4 WHEREAS, Donate Life America has designated April as 5 National Donate Life Month; 6 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State 7 Senate honor April as National Donate Life Month, and that on 8 this month awareness be raised for the need for organ, eye, and 9 tissue donations; and 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the memory of donors be honored 11 for their generosity, that the recipients be appreciated for the 12 new life they have received, and that all people encourage each 13 other to contribute to the cause of saving lives through organ, 14 eye, and tissue donations. 15 I, Sarah Bannister, Secretary of the Senate, 16 do hereby certify that this is a true and 17 correct copy of Senate Resolution 8637, 18 adopted by the Senate 19 April 2, 2025 20 SARAH BANNISTER 21 Secretary of the Senate 22 p. 2 8637
