WHEREAS, The Washington State commercial fishing fleet will set 1
off for the Pacific in May of 2025; and 2
WHEREAS, The blessing of the fleet will take place in Blaine 3
Harbor on May 4th, 2025; and 4
WHEREAS, The commercial and tribal fishing industries are a long-5
standing tradition and are vital to the prosperity of our state and 6
to the economic well-being of many Washington families; and7
WHEREAS, The fishers encounter great adversity on the seas that 8
demands immense bravery and determination, and they deserve our 9
admiration and respect; and 10
WHEREAS, The treacherous waters too often take the lives of the 11
courageous souls who take on great risk for our benefit, and the 12
grief of this loss is felt not only in their families and 13
communities, but across our entire state; 14
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State Senate 15
extend its condolences to the families and friends of all our fishers 16
who have lost their lives at sea, wish the entire commercial fishing 17
fleet a safe and prosperous season, and express its hope that all our 18
fishers will return home safely to their families, friends, and 19
communities. 20
