WHEREAS, The Washington state commercial fishing fleet will set 1
off for the Pacific in May of 2026; and 2
WHEREAS, The blessing of the fleet will occur in Blaine Harbor on 3
May 3, 2026; and 4
WHEREAS, The commercial and tribal fishing industries have, for 5
generations, been vital for the prosperity of our state, and support 6
the economic well-being of many Washington families; and7
WHEREAS, The courage of fishers in the face of danger encountered 8
on the seas deserves our admiration, appreciation, and respect; and9
WHEREAS, The treacherous seas too often take the lives of the 10
valiant souls who take on great risks for our benefit, and the grief 11
of this loss is felt not only in their families and communities, but 12
across our entire state; 13
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state Senate 14
extend its condolences to the families and friends of all our fishers 15
who have lost their lives at sea, wish the entire commercial fishing 16
fleet a safe and prosperous season, and express its hope that all our 17
fishers will return home safely to their families, friends, and 18
communities. 19
