WHEREAS, The Chimacum High School Marching Band has carried 1
forward a deep and meaningful musical tradition in the Chimacum 2
community, reflecting decades of student and faculty dedication, 3
family support, and school pride; and 4
WHEREAS, The band represents a small rural high school in 5
Jefferson County, yet consistently demonstrates that commitment, hard 6
work, and teamwork can create opportunities far beyond what size 7
alone might suggest; and 8
WHEREAS, The Chimacum High School Marching Band has been selected 9
as Washington state's representative in the 2026 National 10
Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., becoming the first and 11
only band in the state chosen for this honor; and 12
WHEREAS, This rare national opportunity recognizes the Chimacum 13
spirit of steady improvement, the courage to grow, and the pride 14
students take in representing the Valley Near the Water; and15
WHEREAS, The band's journey reflects daily effort, early 16
rehearsals, learning new skills, supporting one another, and 17
persisting through challenges, with students building confidence, 18
leadership, and a strong sense of belonging along the way; and19
WHEREAS, The Chimacum community has embraced the band's long-20
standing tradition, with families, alumni, boosters, and local 21
partners coming together to encourage students, maintain a 22

sustainable music program, and ensure all students who wish to 1
participate can do so; and 2
WHEREAS, The band's story has resonated across Washington 3
and beyond, illustrating how small schools cultivate resilience, 4
creativity, and connection, and how music programs strengthen 5
community identity and student engagement; and 6
WHEREAS, The state of Washington recognizes the value of 7
school music programs in promoting student well-being, 8
collaboration, and community pride, and applauds Chimacum's 9
students for representing both their school and their state on a 10
national stage; 11
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State 12
Senate congratulate the Chimacum High School Marching Band for 13
its selection to perform in the 2026 National Independence Day 14
Parade honoring the nation's 250th birthday; and 15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate commend the 16
students, band director, staff, families, and community members 17
who have contributed to sustaining the band's long tradition of 18
participation, improvement, and pride; and 19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 20
transmitted to the Chimacum School District, the Chimacum High 21
School Marching Band, and its director as a token of the 22
Senate's appreciation and respect. 23
