WHEREAS, Many Washington citizens have literally given the gift 1 of life by donating organs, eyes, and tissues; and 2 WHEREAS, It is essential that all citizens are aware of the 3 opportunity to save and heal the lives of others through organ, eye, 4 and tissue donation and transplantation; and 5 WHEREAS, There are more than one hundred thousand courageous 6 Americans awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant, with thirteen 7 individuals losing their lives every day because of the shortage of 8 organs for transplant; and 9 WHEREAS, Every eight minutes, a person is added to the national 10 organ transplant waiting list; and 11 WHEREAS, One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people 12 and heal many more through cornea and tissue donation; and13 WHEREAS, Families receive comfort through the grieving process 14 with the knowledge that through organ, eye, and tissue donation, 15 another person's life has been saved or healed; and16 WHEREAS, Organ donation offers transplant recipients a second 17 chance at life, enabling them to be with their families and maintain 18 a higher quality of life; and 19 WHEREAS, The families of organ, eye, and tissue donors receive 20 gratitude from grateful recipients whose lives have been saved by 21 transplantation; and 22 SENATE RESOLUTION 8686 By Senators Goehner, Slatter, Torres, and Wagoner p. 1 8686 WHEREAS, The example set by those who choose to donate 1 reflects the character and compassion of these individuals, 2 whose voluntary choice saves the lives of others; and3 WHEREAS, Donate Life America has designated April as 4 National Donate Life Month; 5 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State 6 Senate honor April as National Donate Life Month to remember 7 those who have donated and celebrate the lives of the 8 recipients. 9 I, Sarah Bannister, Secretary of the Senate, 10 do hereby certify that this is a true and 11 correct copy of Senate Resolution 8686, 12 adopted by the Senate 13 February 12, 2026 14 SARAH BANNISTER 15 Secretary of the Senate 16 p. 2 8686
