WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity is a global movement bringing 1
people together to build strength, stability, and self-reliance 2
through shelter, and serves communities in the United States and more 3
than 70 countries around the world; and 4
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity creates a world of inclusion and 5
community where every family has the opportunity to achieve the 6
strength, stability, and self-reliance that comes with homeownership; 7
and 8
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas Counties 9
has been transforming lives and strengthening communities across the 10
region since its founding in 1986 and will celebrate its 40th 11
anniversary in 2026; and 12
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas Counties 13
has constructed or renovated 458 homes and completed 650 home 14
repairs, serving more than 2,700 individuals and families, including 15
essential workers like educators, health care professionals, bus 16
drivers, and social workers; and 17
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas Counties 18
has advocated for 87 landmark housing policies resulting in $4.35 19
billion in public funding for affordable housing, improving the lives 20
of more than 2.2 million people across Washington state; and21

WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas 1
Counties has mobilized over 600,000 hours of volunteer support, 2
demonstrating the power of community commitment to solving the 3
housing crisis; and 4
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas 5
Counties provides permanently affordable homeownership at 6
approximately 50 percent of market rates, with 76 percent of 7
initial homeowners still living in their Habitat homes an 8
average of 14 years later; and 9
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas 10
Counties generates $670 million in economic activity and creates 11
5,700 jobs across Washington state, with every dollar invested 12
producing more than twice its value as it circulates through the 13
economy; and 14
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas 15
Counties' stores have diverted more than 25,000 tons of goods 16
from landfills while generating critical revenue to fund home 17
building and repair programs; and 18
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas 19
Counties is poised to serve approximately 200 families each year 20
by 2028-2029; and 21
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King and Kittitas 22
Counties is a lifeline for working families who have been priced 23
out of stability; transforming lives, building confidence, and 24
creating communities that stand for housing justice and economic 25
opportunity; 26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state 27
Senate celebrate the 40th anniversary of Habitat for Humanity 28
Seattle-King and Kittitas Counties and the impact it has had on 29
the lives of thousands of families, volunteers, and the greater 30
community over the course of its four decade history; and31
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the organization continues to 32
build on its legacy as it shapes a future of greater impact and 33
inclusion in its next 40 years, one where every working family 34
has access to the stability and opportunity that comes with 35
affordable homeownership. 36
