WHEREAS, Rebecca Jae Saldaña was appointed to the Washington 1
state Senate in 2016, won a special election in 2017, and was 2
subsequently reelected twice; and 3
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña represents the 37th Legislative 4
District, a vibrant and diverse community including parts of South 5
Seattle, Renton, Madrona, the Central District, Leschi, Beacon Hill, 6
Columbia City, Rainier Valley, and Bryn Mawr-Skyway; and7
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has demonstrated tireless dedication to 8
advocating for frontline communities disproportionately affected by 9
environmental and social injustices; and 10
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has become a leading voice for workers, 11
immigrants, women, and communities of color, ensuring policymaking 12
reflects the lived experiences of those most affected; and13
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña serves as chair of the Senate Labor and 14
Commerce Committee, and has used this role to stand up for workers 15
throughout Washington state, strengthen economic fairness, and create 16

residents, including the Washington Voting Rights Act, which 1
expanded democratic access and representation for historically 2
marginalized communities; and 3
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña was the prime sponsor of the 4
Healthy Environment for All (HEAL) Act, the first statewide law 5
addressing disproportionate environmental hazards faced by 6
Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, establishing 7
environmental justice as a guiding principle across state 8
government; and 9
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña championed the Domestic Workers' 10
Bill of Rights, guaranteeing minimum wage, overtime, rest 11
breaks, written contracts, and antidiscrimination and 12
antiretaliation protections for domestic workers long excluded 13
from basic labor protections; and 14
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña advanced the Adult Entertainment 15
Workers' Rights Act, establishing critical safety standards, 16
fair contracting practices, and workplace protections for adult 17
industry workers; and 18
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has transformed policymaking by 19
bringing impacted communities directly into the legislative 20
process, ensuring voices from all walks of life are heard, 21
respected, and empowered to help shape Washington's future; and22
WHEREAS, Senator Saldaña has consistently encouraged her 23
staff, supported fellow legislators, and empowered community 24
leaders, remaining an unapologetic champion for women, Latinas 25
and Latinos, immigrants, workers, and all who have historically 26

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state 28
Senate commend and honor Rebecca Saldaña for her extraordinary 29
service to the people of the 37th Legislative District and the 30

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be transmitted 32
by the Secretary of the Senate to Senator Rebecca Saldaña with 33
the Senate's deepest gratitude, respect, and appreciation for 34
