An Act

to create
20.395 (2) (ja) and 85.024 of the statutes;
relating to:
local
2
traffic calming grants and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under this bill, the Department of Transportation must develop and administer a local traffic calming grant program under which DOT awards grants to political subdivisions and Indian tribes or bands for infrastructure projects designed to reduce the speed of vehicular traffic. The bill provides $60,000,000 for the program.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Local traffic calming grants.
The department shall develop and
11
administer a local traffic calming grant program. From the appropriation under s.
12
20.395 (2) (ja), the department shall award grants to counties, cities, villages,
13
towns, and federally recognized Indian tribes or bands for infrastructure projects
14
that are eligible for funding under the federal transportation alternatives program
15
and that are designed to reduce the speed of vehicular traffic. The department
16
shall prescribe the form, nature, and extent of information that shall be contained
17
in applications for grants under this section and shall establish criteria for
18
evaluating applications and for awarding grants under this section.
