An Act

to amend
20.370 (1) (mu);
to create
29.063 (7) of the statutes;
relating
2
to:
chronic wasting disease sampling and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law allows the Department of Natural Resources to manage and provide funding to conduct testing for chronic wasting disease in cervids, which are any species of deer or elk that are present in the wild and are not farm-raised deer. Currently, DNR administers a program under which it provides chronic wasting disease sampling stations, including self-service kiosks, where hunters may drop off deer carcass parts for sampling. This bill codifies this program by requiring DNR to establish and administer it and provides $1,000,000 in the 2025-27 fiscal biennium for the program. The bill allows DNR to contract with private entities to conduct the sampling and to pay private entities per sample taken.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
