An Act

relating to:
marking the Mississippi River Trail.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under this bill, when the Department of Transportation determines that each municipality located on the route of the Great River Road has approved a resolution expressing support for the Mississippi River Trail and identifying and confirming a route for the trail, DOT must notify the Legislative Reference Bureau. LRB must then publish a notice in the administrative register that specifies that date. No later than 18 months after that date, DOT must procure and erect signs marking the Mississippi River Trail. DOT may submit a request to the joint committee on finance to supplement a DOT appropriation for the procurement and erection of the signs without JCF finding that an emergency exists.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Notice.
On the date on which the department of transportation determines

that each municipality located on the route of the Great River Road, as established
2
in s. 84.107, has approved a resolution expressing support for the Mississippi River
3
Trail effort and identifying and confirming a route for the Mississippi River Trail
4
through each municipality, the department shall notify the legislative reference
5
bureau. The legislative reference bureau shall publish a notice in the Wisconsin
6
administrative register that specifies that date.

Signs.
No later than 18 months after the date specified in par. (

department of transportation shall procure and erect signs marking the Mississippi

River Trail.

Funding.
The department of transportation may submit a request to the

joint committee on finance to supplement an appropriation of the department of
12
transportation for the procurement and erection of signs under par. (

Notwithstanding s. 13.101 (3), the committee is not required to find that an

emergency exists prior to supplementing an appropriation of the department of
15
transportation for the procurement and erection of signs under par. (
b
).
