An Act
to amend

relating to:
funding for the birth
2
defect prevention and monitoring system and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Health Services administers a birth defect prevention and surveillance system under which DHS collects and maintains information related to diagnoses of birth defects in children under the age of two. This bill increases the number of authorized DHS positions by 3.3 positions, funded from program revenue, for the purpose of maintaining the birth defect prevention and surveillance system. In addition, under current law, DHS must allocate $95,000 annually for the birth defect prevention and surveillance system. The bill directs DHS to allocate $500,000 annually for the system and provides funding for that purpose.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
