An Act
to amend
440.52 (10) (a) of the statutes;
relating to:
requiring certain

private postsecondary schools to report veteran enrollment information.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Safety and Professional Services examines, approves, and regulates most private postsecondary schools, including trade schools and for-profit colleges. All such schools approved by DSPS are required to submit quarterly reports that include certain information, including information on enrollment.
This bill requires these quarterly reports to also include information on veteran enrollment.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

(a)
Authority.
All proprietary schools shall be examined and

approved by the department before operating in this state. Approval shall be
6
granted to schools meeting the criteria established by the department for a period
1
not to exceed one year. No school may advertise in this state unless approved by the
2
department. All approved schools shall submit quarterly reports, including
3
information on enrollment,
veteran enrollment,
number of teachers and their
4
qualifications, course offerings, number of graduates, number of graduates
5
successfully employed, and such other information as the department considers
6
necessary. If a school closure results in losses to students, parents, or sponsors, the
7
department may authorize the full or partial payment of those losses from the
8
appropriation under s. 20.165 (1) (jt).
