An Act
to create
29.539 (1m) (n) of the statutes;
relating to:
the offering of

deer to a meat processing facility for provision to a food pantry.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill exempts certain deer from a prohibition on selling, purchasing, bartering, or trading wild animals. Specifically, a deer is exempt from this prohibition if it is lawfully taken in the central farmland zone or southern farmland zone and it is offered, in exchange for one or more gift cards or gift certificates to local businesses, to a meat processing facility that agrees to process the deer and that agrees to provide the processed meat to a food distribution service, defined in current law as a program of a private nonprofit organization that provides food products directly to individuals with low incomes or that collects food products for that purpose.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

(n) A deer to which all of the following apply:

1. It is lawfully taken in the central farmland zone or southern farmland zone,

as shown in s. NR 10.28 (4), Wis. Adm. Code.

agrees to provide the processed meat to a food distribution service, as defined in s.

895.51 (1) (c).
