honoring Wisconsin’s Hispanic and Latino veterans.

Whereas, Hispanic and Latino Americans have served in armed conflicts
3
throughout our nation’s history, including the Revolutionary War; and

Whereas, an all-Hispanic unit known as the Borinqueneers distinguished
5
itself during the Korean War, fighting bravely in every major campaign; and

Whereas, in 1982, General Richard Edward Cavazos, a former Borinqueneer,
7
became the first Hispanic four-star general in the U.S. Army after earning
8
distinction for his service in both the Korean and Vietnam wars; and

Whereas, about one in every 12 veterans is Hispanic or Latino, and this
10
proportion is expected to grow as Hispanic and Latino Americans increasingly
11
serve in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces; and

Whereas, the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison has conducted oral
13
history interviews with Hispanic and Latino veterans that preserve their stories for
14
future generations; and

Whereas, the War Memorial Center in Milwaukee has hosted an exhibition

showcasing the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Wisconsinites in defense of
3
our country; now, therefore, be it

assembly

concurring, That
the members of

the Wisconsin Legislature extend their recognition and gratitude to Hispanic and
6
Latino veterans of Wisconsin and acknowledge their service and sacrifices in the
7
name of freedom.
