recognizing and congratulating the Stevens Point Area Senior High

boys cross country team.

Whereas, on November 1, 2025, the Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH)
4
boys cross country team continued its tradition of excellence by winning the
5
Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Cross Country
6
Tournament; and

Whereas, the SPASH boys cross country team has represented the Stevens
8
Point community with pride, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to athletic
9
and academic achievement; and

Whereas, the program fields an extraordinary 70 high school athletes and 40
11
junior high athletes, fostering a culture of teamwork, leadership, and long-term
12
personal development; and

Whereas, during the 2025 season, the Panthers completed an undefeated
14
campaign, capturing titles at seven multi-team invitationals, the Wisconsin Valley
1
Conference Meet, the WIAA sectional meet, and, ultimately, the WIAA state
2
championship; and

Whereas, this state championship marks the fourth consecutive title for the
4
SPASH boys cross country team, its fifth in the past six years and an astounding
5
15th overall, further cementing the program’s standing as one of the most
6
accomplished in Wisconsin history; and

Whereas, between 1977 and 2024, the SPASH boys cross country team
8
qualified for the WIAA state meet an unprecedented 47 times—the most state
9
appearances of any team in Wisconsin, demonstrating unmatched consistency and
10
excellence across generations of student-athletes; and

Whereas, the team’s success extended beyond competition as they were
12
honored as Academic All-State, exemplifying the balance of hard work in the
13
classroom and on the course; and

Whereas, head coaches Donn Behnke and Kevin Hopp were recognized as
15
State Coaches of the Year for their exceptional leadership and dedication to
16
developing student-athletes in mind, body, and character; and

Whereas, the Panthers also celebrated outstanding individual achievements,
18
including First Team All-Conference honors for Cooper Erickson, Garrett Strong,
19
Fisher Carroll, John Jazdzewski, and Bennett Story; now, therefore, be it

the Wisconsin

Legislature hereby recognizes and congratulates the Stevens Point Area Senior

High boys cross country team for its extraordinary accomplishments, championship

tradition, and academic excellence and the pride the team brings to the Stevens

Point community and the state of Wisconsin.
