celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service

and opposing any effort to dismantle, privatize, or weaken this vital

institution.

Whereas, this year marks the United States Postal Service’s 250th
5
anniversary; and

Whereas, from its founding, the Postal Service has provided essential service
7
as a public institution that has bound our nation together; and

Whereas, the Postal Service employs over half a million Americans as one of
9
our country’s largest federal civilian workforces; and

Whereas, Postal Service employees’ daily duties include delivering
11
prescriptions to seniors and veterans, ballots to voters, and shipments for small
12
businesses; and

Whereas, the Postal Service is the only delivery service to reach every address
14
in the nation, providing reliable shipments to rural and remote areas, including
1
many Indigenous communities, and locations that are not served by any private
2
companies because they would not be profitable; and

Whereas, recent efforts have been made to weaken the Postal Service in favor
4
of privatization under for-profit companies that do not hold the same accountability
5
to the American public or the same responsibility to provide service regardless of
6
geography or income threshold; and

Whereas, the Postal Service must continue to be funded and protected for
8
generations to come; now, therefore, be it

assembly

senate
concurring, That
the legislature

celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States Postal Service and opposes
11
any effort to dismantle, privatize, or weaken this vital institution.
