Whereas, the U.S. women’s ice hockey team won 2–1 against Canada in

overtime; and

Whereas, one-quarter of the team has played for the University of

Wisconsin–Madison women’s hockey team, featuring current Badgers Caroline

“KK” Harvey, Kirsten Simms, Ava McNaughton, and Laila Edwards, alongside
8
alumnae Britta Curl-Salemme and Hilary Knight; and

Whereas, former Badger Hilary Knight tipped in a game-tying goal on a shot
10
by current Badger Laila Edwards to force overtime; and

Whereas, five-time Olympic medalist Hilary Knight, who has three silver

medals (2010, 2014, and 2022) and now two gold medals (2018 and 2026), made

U.S. history with her record-setting 15th career goal; and

Whereas, Megan Keller took a long stretch pass, dangled past a Canadian

defender, and scored the winning goal that secured the gold medal for the team; and

Whereas, Laila Edwards became the first Black hockey player to win a gold

medal for the United States; and

Whereas, Caroline Harvey co-led the tournament in scoring, set a record for

points by a defender, and won MVP of the tournament; and

Whereas, the team was led by captain Hilary Knight and alternate captains

Alex Carpenter and Megan Keller, who were joined by teammates Hannah Bilka,

Britta Curl-Salemme, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Joy Dunne, Taylor Heise, Tessa

Janecke, Abbey Murphy, Kelly Pannek, Hayley Scamurra, Kirsten Simms, Grace

Zumwinkle, Cayla Barnes, Laila Edwards, Rory Guilday, Caroline Harvey, Lee

Whereas, the team was managed by an experienced and dedicated coaching

staff, including head coach John Wroblewski, native to Neenah, assistant coaches

Shari Dickerman, Brent Hill, and Josh Sciba, and goaltending coach Alli Altmann;

Whereas, the team was also assisted by fellow Wisconsinites and Badgers

Stefanie Arndt, an athletic trainer from Delafield, and equipment manager Sis

Whereas, Wisconsin takes great pride in our Badger representation and our

country’s strong showing at the 2026 Winter Olympics; now, therefore, be it

that the members

of the Wisconsin State Legislature do hereby commend the U.S. Olympic Women’s

Ice Hockey Team and the coaching staff on their Olympic gold medal and wish the

student-athletes, athletes, coaches, and staff continued success on and off the ice.
