honoring Anna Mae Robertson for her extraordinary achievements

Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson, a distinguished resident of Milwaukee and
4
one of the last surviving members of the historic 6888th Central Postal Directory
5
Battalion, also known as the Six Triple Eight, dedicated her life to serving our
6
nation with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment; and

Whereas, born in Mississippi and raised in Osceola, Arkansas, Anna Mae
8
Robertson enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps in 1943 during World War II,
9
joining the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas; and

Whereas, upon arrival in England in early 1945, the battalion faced the
11
formidable task of clearing a backlog of over 17 million pieces of mail, a mission
12
critical to maintaining soldier morale; and

Whereas, members of the battalion worked around the clock in eight-hour
1
shifts under challenging conditions to clear the backlog in a record-breaking three
2
months; and

Whereas, after returning to the United States in 1946, Anna Mae Robertson
4
settled in Milwaukee, dedicating her life to caring for others as a nurse’s aide and
5
raising a family; and

Whereas, after decades of being overlooked, Anna Mae Robertson’s invaluable
7
contributions were finally recognized when Robertson was awarded various
8
individual service medals in 2014 and her battalion was formally presented with
9
the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal in 2025; and

Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson’s legacy is immortalized through her family
11
and in documentaries, feature films, including the acclaimed film

, and public honors and heartfelt tributes from elected officials and artists

alike; and

Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson passed away at the remarkable age of 101,
15
leaving behind a profound legacy of resilience, service, and inspiration; and

Whereas, Anna Mae Robertson exemplified the highest ideals of duty, honor,

and patriotism; now, therefore, be it

the Wisconsin Legislature recognize and honor Anna Mae Robertson for her

extraordinary achievements and service to our nation, extend their deepest

gratitude and heartfelt condolences to her family, and acknowledge the enduring

impact of her contributions to our state and our country.
