Whereas, Representative Thomas “Tom” Hauke, a dedicated public servant,
4
husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 1, 2023, at the age of 84,
5
three days shy of his 85th birthday; and

Whereas, Tom Hauke was born on May 4, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, as the
7
second of three children to Charles and Ann Hauke; and

Whereas, Tom Hauke graduated from Pulaski High School and went on to
9
receive his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from Marquette University in 1960
10
and 1967, respectively, and his master’s degree from the Milwaukee School of
11
Engineering in 1971; and

Whereas, Tom Hauke worked for Allis Chalmers for four years after college,
13
and, professionally, was an electrical engineer, attorney, and legislator from West
14
Allis; and

Whereas, Tom Hauke was elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 1972 and
2
served until 1992, including serving as majority leader for four years; and

Whereas, Tom Hauke served as the chair of several committees during his
4
time in the assembly, including on the Assembly Committees on Elections,
5
Financial Institutions and Insurance, and Rules; the Legislative Council Study
6
Committee on State Deposit Guarantee Fund; and the Legislative Council Study
7
Committee on Interest Rate Practices and the Subcommittee on Mortgage Loans;
8
and

Whereas, Tom Hauke fought against excessive partisanship that dominated
10
legislative deliberations during his tenure in the legislature and never lost sight of
11
his commitment to serve his constituents and to solve problems; and

Whereas, Tom Hauke was a loving husband to his wife of 53 years, Susan,
13
father to his sons, Michael and Matthew, and grandfather to his granddaughter,
14
Jaeda; and

Whereas, Representative Tom Hauke is remembered fondly for his big heart,
16
kind sense of humor, commitment to bipartisanship, and his love for his family and
17
the people of the state of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it

the members of

the Wisconsin Legislature honor the life and public service of Representative

Thomas A. Hauke and extend their condolences to his family and friends.
