Whereas, the story of Hispanics and Latinos is the story of America; and

Whereas, Hispanics and Latinos contribute to the economy, arts, sciences,

sports, and culture in the United States; and

Whereas, Latinos serve in government at every level, from school boards to the

state house, from city councils and mayoral offices to the U.S. Congress; and

Whereas, Latinos have served with honor and distinction in every conflict

involving the United States since the Revolutionary War; and

Whereas, the 2020 U.S. Census revealed that the Hispanic population had

surpassed 62 million people, constituting nearly 19 percent of the total population

of the United States; and

Whereas, about 450,000 Latinos call Wisconsin home; and

Whereas, this figure includes JoCasta Zamarripa, who became the first

Latina elected to the Wisconsin Legislature in November 2010 and later became a

elected to the Wisconsin Legislature in November 1998 and was sworn in as the

state’s first Latino appellate court judge in November 2023; now, therefore, be it
