Whereas, Careers in Construction Month is designated annually to increase

public awareness and appreciation of construction craft professionals and the entire

construction workforce; and

Whereas, the construction industry is one of Wisconsin’s largest industries,

with nearly 6 percent of the Wisconsin workforce being employed in construction;

Whereas, construction is a true opportunity career, allowing anyone to start as

a general laborer, become an apprentice, develop a specialization, gain licensing and
10
credentials, advance into a supervisory role, and eventually become their own boss;

Whereas, construction is a lifelong career where you can raise a family in a

career that cannot be outsourced; and

Whereas, Wisconsin’s world class apprenticeship program allows individuals

to earn when they learn without accumulating overwhelming student debt; and

Whereas, our fellow Wisconsinites work every day in construction, building

the houses we live in, the schools we learn in, the hospitals we are healed in, and the

houses of worship we pray in; and

Whereas, in Wisconsin, the construction industry needs nearly 500,000 new

craft professionals in 2026, according to Associated Builders and Contractors; and

Whereas, we are pleased to honor construction craft professionals and the

critical role they play in the development and growth of our state; and

Whereas, during this month of October, employers, associations, and schools

are encouraged to conduct job fairs, panel discussions, and local community events

to inform students of the vast employment opportunities in construction that lead
13
to rewarding, long-term careers; and

Whereas, this month, the state of Wisconsin joins dedicated individuals and
15
organizations across our state in honoring our state’s construction craft

professionals for their hard work and dedication and recognizing the critical role

they play in the continued development and maintenance of our state; now,
