Relating to:
congratulating the University of Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons

football team on winning the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Whereas, on January 4, 2026, the University of Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons
4
football team defeated the Illinois North Central Cardinals in a dominant 24–14
5
Stagg Bowl performance to win their first NCAA Championship in program history,
6
marking the Falcons’ first NCAA tournament appearance since 1996; and

Whereas, with an impressive 14–1 season record, the Falcons won their first
8
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship since 1998
9
and their first outright WIAC Championship since 1985; and

Whereas, senior Kaleb Blaha became the first NCAA Division III player in
11
history to be named a Manning Award finalist after breaking the college football
12
single-season record with 6,189 offensive yards; he is also the first Falcon in
13
program history to win the Gagliardi Trophy for most outstanding NCAA Division
1
III football player, and he was named the 2025 Stagg Bowl’s most outstanding
2
player; and

Whereas, the Falcons football team has now won 19 WIAC Championships in
4
program history since the team’s founding in 1895 and became only the ninth
5
WIAC football program in history to win the NCAA Division III National
6
Championship; and

Whereas, since his start as head coach in 2011, Matt Walker has led the
8
Falcons to two Isthmus Bowl titles in 2021 and 2022, has coached over 140 Falcons
9
to All-WIAC honors, and was named the WIAC Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2025;

Whereas, prior to the 2021 season, the Falcons football team suffered 19
12
consecutive losing seasons, but has since gone 44–13, finishing with winning
13
records for the past five successive seasons; and

Whereas, in the words of Coach Walker, “it was 15 years to get here . . .

everybody just kept fighting and supporting and staying committed to this vision”;

Whereas, through this commitment to vision, the UW–River Falls Falcons
18
football team displayed excellence on and off the field; now, therefore, be it

assembly
, That
the Wisconsin Assembly congratulates the
20
University of Wisconsin–River Falls Falcons football team on winning the NCAA
21
Division III National Championship and commends the players, coaches, and staff
22
for their historic achievement.
