2025 - 2026 LEGISLATURE
LRB-6082/1
CMH:ajk
2025 ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION 11
January 20, 2026 - Introduced by Representative
Goeben
. Referred to Committee on Rules.
AR11,1,1
1
Relating to:
declaring January as Blood Donor Month in the State of Wisconsin.
AR11,1,5
2
Whereas, more than 55 years ago, January was designated as National Blood
3
Donor Month as an annual observance to honor voluntary blood donors and to
4
encourage more individuals to donate blood at a time when blood supplies are
5
historically low; and
AR11,1,9
6
Whereas, blood donations are a backbone of Wisconsin’s health care; every two
7
seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion, but blood cannot be manufactured and
8
is only made possible by generous donors who roll up their sleeves to help save lives;
9
and
AR11,1,13
10
Whereas, the Wisconsin population is aging, and too few new donors are
11
volunteering to take the place of those unable to donate any longer; only about 3
12
percent of the age-eligible population donates blood, but patient needs are constant;
13
and
AR11,2,2
14
Whereas, type O blood is often used in trauma situations, making it the most
1
needed blood type and most likely to be in short supply during a blood emergency;
2
and
AR11,2,6
3
Whereas, patients requiring blood transfusions include cancer patients;
4
accident, burn, and trauma victims; newborn babies and their mothers; transplant
5
recipients; surgery patients; chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle
6
cell disease or thalassemia; and many more; now, therefore, be it
AR11,2,8
7
Resolved by the
assembly
, That
the Wisconsin State Assembly declares
8
January as Blood Donor Month in the State of Wisconsin; and, be it further
AR11,2,11
9
Resolved, That
we urge all citizens to celebrate the cause of blood donation
10
and to recognize the lifesaving contributions of volunteer blood donors; and, be it
11
further
AR11,2,15
12
Resolved, That
we urge all eligible blood donors to donate regularly and for
13
businesses and organizations throughout the State of Wisconsin to sponsor
14
community blood drives to provide residents of our state the opportunity to save
15
lives.
