Whereas, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections has served Wisconsin
4
since 1851; and

Whereas, Wisconsin hired its first probation officer in 1909; and
AR9,1,8

Whereas, the mission of the Department of Corrections includes protecting
7
the public, providing opportunities for positive change, and collaborating with
8
communities; and

Whereas, dedicated professional probation and parole agents are a critical
10
component of the department’s mission and of the larger criminal justice system;
11
and

Whereas, probation and parole agents enhance public safety through the
13
reduction of offender risk by providing supervision and collaborating with
1
community partners to assist individuals on probation, parole, or extended
2
supervision to change their behavior and repair the harm they have done; and

Whereas, there are currently 218 probation offices and 1,200 probation and
4
parole agents spread throughout the state; and

Whereas, the Department of Corrections currently serves over 63,000 clients
6
on supervision, requiring probation and parole agents to manage complex
7
caseloads, collaborate with external stakeholders, and enhance public safety
8
through the successful reentry of clients; and

Whereas, probation and parole agents work tirelessly to provide individuals
10
on supervision the opportunity to succeed while holding them accountable to their
11
rules and conditions; now, therefore, be it

assembly
, That
the Wisconsin Assembly recognizes

Probation and Parole Agent Appreciation Week as July 21, 2025, to July 27, 2025, to
14
recognize agents’ crucial role in protecting the public.
