An Act

to create
20.255 (2) (bj) and 115.374 of the statutes;
relating to:
grants

for emergency notification systems that are accessible to deaf and hard-of-

hearing pupils and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under this bill, the Department of Public Instruction must establish a grant program to award grants to school districts that install emergency notification systems that are accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing pupils or upgrade emergency notification systems to make them accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing pupils. Each grant to a school district may not exceed the amount the school district expended in installing or upgrading an emergency notification system. The bill provides $1,000,000 to DPI in each of fiscal years 2025-26 and 2026-27 for the grants.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

From the appropriation under s. 20.255 (2) (bj), the
15
department shall establish a grant program to award grants to school districts that
16
install an emergency notification system that is accessible to deaf and hard-of-
17
hearing pupils or upgrade an emergency notification system to make it accessible to
18
deaf and hard-of-hearing pupils. The department may not award a grant under this
19
section to a school district in an amount that exceeds the amount the school district
20
expended in the installation or upgrade of an emergency notification system.
