Referred to Committee on Transportation and Local Government. SB136,1,2 1 An Act to amend 347.26 (4) (a); to create 347.26 (4) (am) of the statutes; 2 relating to: school bus back-up lamps. Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau This bill provides that a school bus may be equipped with one back-up lamp mounted to each side of the vehicle and directed to project a white or amber light illuminating the rear wheels of the vehicle when backing. Under current law, a motor vehicle may not be equipped with more than two back-up lamps, which must be directed to project white or amber light illuminating the roadway to the rear of the vehicle for a distance of up 75 feet. The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows: SB136,1 3 Section 1 . 347.26 (4) (a) of the statutes is amended to read: SB136,1,7 4 347.26 (4) (a) Any Except as provided in par. (am), any motor vehicle may be 5 equipped with not more than 2 back-up lamps which shall be so directed as to 6 project a white or amber light illuminating the roadway to the rear of such vehicle 7 for a distance not to exceed 75 feet. SB136,2 1 Section 2 . 347.26 (4) (am) of the statutes is created to read: SB136,2,5 2 347.26 (4) (am) In addition to the lamps authorized under par. (a), a school 3 bus may be equipped with one back-up lamp mounted to each side of the vehicle and 4 directed to project a white or amber light illuminating the rear wheels of the vehicle 5 when backing.
