An Act
to repeal
20.435 (1) (en);
to create
20.435 (1) (en) of the statutes;

relating to:
funding for the supplemental food program for women, infants
3
and children during the federal government shutdown and making an
4
appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Health Services provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals under the supplemental food program for women, infants and children, also known as the WIC program, to the extent that state and federal funds are available. This bill provides additional state funding to DHS during the federal lapse in appropriations, commonly known as a federal government shutdown, that began on October 1, 2025, to continue to provide WIC benefits at the level the benefits were provided before the federal government shutdown.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Until the enactment of federal legislation that provides funding under

, the department of health services shall, notwithstanding s. 253.06 (2),

continue to provide benefits to participants in the supplemental food program for

women, infants and children under s. 253.06 at the level the department provided

the benefits immediately prior to the federal lapse in appropriations that began on
13
October 1, 2025.
