Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill allows a city, village, town, or county to regulate fire detection, prevention, and suppression in a public building that contains a dwelling. Under current law, cities, villages, towns, and counties are generally prohibited from establishing minimum standards for constructing, altering, or adding to public buildings, subject to certain exceptions.
Because this bill may increase or decrease, directly or indirectly, the cost of the development, construction, financing, purchasing, sale, ownership, or availability of housing in this state, the Department of Administration, as required by law, will prepare a report to be printed as an appendix to this bill.
