An Act
to create
20.370 (4) (kt) and 30.2024 of the statutes;
relating to:

making a grant for dredging of the Deerskin River in the town of Washington
3
in Vilas County and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to award a grant of $1,750,000 to the town of Washington in Vilas County for a project to dredge the Deerskin River. The town may use the funds for the actual costs of permits, testing, dredging, and transportation of removed sediment if the costs are directly related to the dredging of the Deerskin River. Under the bill, if the town does not complete the dredging project by December 31, 2028, the town must return to the state the full amount of the grant. If the town completes the project and the actual costs incurred are less than the amount awarded, the town must return to the state the unexpended amount.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Biennially, from the

environmental fund, from the moneys received by the department for

environmental management purposes, the amounts in the schedule to provide a
11
grant to the town of Washington in Vilas County for dredging the Deerskin River.

(1)
From the appropriation

under s. 20.370 (4) (kt), the department shall award a grant of $1,750,000 to the
15
town of Washington in Vilas County for a project to dredge the Deerskin River. The
16
town of Washington may use the amounts awarded for the actual costs of permits,
17
testing, dredging, and transportation of removed sediment if the costs are directly
18
related to the dredging of the Deerskin River.

If the town of Washington does not complete the project under sub. (1) by

December 31, 2028, the town of Washington shall pay to the department the full
21
amount awarded under sub. (1).

actual costs incurred are less than the amount awarded under sub. (1), the town of
