An Act
to create
165.503 of the statutes;
relating to:
requiring the

Department of Justice to conduct a public awareness campaign.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires the Department of Justice to conduct a children’s online digital safety awareness campaign with the goal of raising awareness of the potential dangers of internet use by children and distributing information on steps that may be taken to prevent children’s exposure to harmful content on the internet. Under the bill, DOJ must provide any materials developed for the campaign to a school, free of charge, upon request.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

Internet crimes against children public awareness campaign.

(1)
The department of justice shall conduct a children’s online digital safety

awareness campaign with the goal of raising awareness of the potential dangers of

Internet use by children and distributing information on steps that may be taken to

prevent children’s exposure to harmful content on the Internet. The campaign
4
shall use a combination of digital platforms, including the department’s website,
5
social media platforms, and digital newsletters, and print platforms, if available.

The department of justice shall provide any of the materials developed for

the digital safety awareness campaign under sub. (1) to a school, as defined in s.
8
118.257 (1) (d), free of charge upon request.
