SB985,1,2
1
An Act

to amend
175.51 (1v) (a) of the statutes;
relating to:
administration of
2
the veterans at risk alert system.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
The Department of Justice currently administers several alert systems, under which DOJ works with law enforcement agencies, broadcasters, and others to disseminate information regarding certain cases involving endangered children, missing persons at risk, and veterans at risk. Under current law, to qualify as a “veteran at risk,” the missing person must be a veteran or an active duty member who has a physical or mental health condition that is related to his or her service. This bill removes the condition that the physical or mental health condition be related to his or her service.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
SB985,1
3
Section

1
.
175.51 (1v) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB985,2,3
4
175.51
(1v)
(a) In this subsection, “veteran at risk” means a veteran or an

active-duty member of the armed forces, the national guard, or the military reserve
1
forces of the United States who is known, based on the information provided by the
2
person making the report, to have a physical or mental health condition
that is
3
related to his or her service
.
