Whereas, the Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter

Games showcase top athletes from around the world, including Wisconsin; and

Whereas, the presence of Wisconsin athletes at the Winter Games reflects the

state’s strong tradition of winter sportsmanship; and

Whereas, several Wisconsinites represent the United States on cross-country

skis, including Deedra Irwin (Pulaski) and Paul Schommer (Appleton) in biathlon
9
and Ben Loomis (Eau Claire) in Nordic combined; and

Whereas, Wisconsin boasts a strong presence in wheelchair curling, with

Steve Emt (DeForest), Dan Rose (Tomah), Laura Dwyer (Oconomowoc), and Matt

Thums (Ogema) competing; and

Whereas, also representing the United States on the ice are Liam

Cunningham (River Falls) in sled hockey, Jordan Stolz (Kewaskum) in

speedskating, Jadin O’Brien (Pewaukee) in bobsled, and Marcus Mueller

Whereas, various Olympians from other states were born, raised, or honed

their skills in Wisconsin; and

Whereas, Madison was the birthplace of cross-country skier Gus Schumacher

and biathlete Joanne Reid, daughter of Wisconsinite and Olympian Beth Heiden

Reid; and

Whereas, several members of the U.S. Women’s Ice Hockey Team have also

distinguished themselves as Badger stars; and

Whereas, fellow Badger Adéla Šapovalivová is competing for Czechia,

becoming the first member of her team to represent a country other than the United

States or Canada; and

Whereas, these Wisconsin athletes represent the peak of athletic skill, effort,

dedication, and perseverance; now, therefore, be it

the members of

the Wisconsin Legislature celebrate the Wisconsin athletes competing in the 2026

Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games in Italy and root for their
