Whereas, Equal Pay Day occurs each year on the day that symbolizes how far

into the new year women must work full time to earn the same wages that their
4
male counterparts earned the previous year; and

Whereas, since World War II, when Wisconsin women worked in factories and

shipyards, Wisconsin women remain among the most likely in the United States to
7
be in the paid workforce, consistently ranking among the top 10 of states; and

Whereas, in 2023, nearly 62 percent of Wisconsin women aged 16 and older
9
were in the civilian labor force; and

Whereas, 2025 marks 106 years since the passage of the Nineteenth

Amendment to the U.S. Constitution by Congress on June 4, 1919, which was one of
12
the first steps in providing equal rights to women; and

Whereas, working Wisconsin women contribute to a profoundly better quality
1
of life in our state by significantly raising the incomes of their families and their
2
communities; and

Whereas, Wisconsin narrowed its pay equity gap between 1979, when women

earned on average 42 cents less per dollar than men, and 2023, when women earned
5
on average 12 cents less per dollar; and

Whereas, nationwide, in 2022, White women earned 83 percent as much as
7
their male counterparts, compared with 91 percent for Black women, 79 percent for
8
Asian women, and 86 percent for Hispanic women; and

Whereas, continued progress in narrowing the pay equity gap in Wisconsin
10
will help to maintain Wisconsin families’ high quality of life; now, therefore, be it
