Whereas, older than the nation it defends, the U.S. Army was established on

June 14, 1775, and this year marks 250 years of continuous defense of the nation;

Whereas, as we celebrate the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, we reflect on its

rich history and legacy of service, sacrifice, and dedication; and

Whereas, from the Revolutionary War to present-day missions, our soldiers

have consistently demonstrated their resolve to defend freedom at home and
9
abroad; and

Whereas, for 250 years, U.S. Army soldiers, families, and Army civilians have

supported our nation, bearing true faith and allegiance to the country, the U.S.
12
Constitution, and the Army; and

Whereas, America’s Army is the largest of the armed services, consisting of

more than 1.2 million people across the globe who defend our country every day;

Whereas, today's Army stands ready to meet any challenge and will continue

to adapt and modernize to remain the most lethal ground force in the world; and

Whereas, more than 10,000 Army soldiers and civilians are currently

stationed or working in Wisconsin, and more than 100,000 Army veterans call
7
Wisconsin home; and

Whereas, since it was established in 1909, U.S. Army Garrison Fort McCoy

has played a crucial role in our nation’s defense and growth as a nation, both as a
10
mobilization and training site for military personnel and as a select location for
11
housing displaced persons; and

Whereas, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin, has a
13
local and regional economic impact of nearly $1.4 billion, and remains one of
14
Monroe County’s largest employers; and

Whereas, each Army soldier serves according to the Army Values of loyalty,
16
duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage; and

Whereas, Army soldiers and civilians will continue to maintain the trust and

confidence of the American people while adding to the proud legacy of the Army;

Whereas, Wisconsin honors and appreciates its Army soldiers, civilians, and

veterans and their legacy of brave service to our state and nation as a whole; now,
